The conventions used throughout this book are listed below.

For all UNIX-based commands, the

/usr/cvfs/bin/cvlabel -l

# prompt is implied, although it is not shown.

is the same as

 

# /usr/cvfs/bin/cvlabel -l

 

 

Screen text, file names, program names, and

mkdir -p <mount point>

commands are in Courier font.

 

 

 

The root prompt for UNIX is shown as a number

tar xvf <filename>

symbol.

 

 

 

Site-specific variables are enclosed within

chmod 777 <mount point>

brackets < > .

 

 

 

Pressing Return or Enter after each command is
