Replacing the Traction Belt —
When the traction drive belt becomes worn, stretched,
1.Pull the wire off of the spark plug and ensure that the wire does not contact the plug.
2.Drain the gasoline from fuel tank.
3.Remove the two screws that hold the belt cover in place and set the cover aside (Figure 39).

4.Remove the auger/impeller drive belt from the engine pulley and the large auger/impeller pulley (Figure 40).

5.Tip the snowthrower forward and block it so it cannot fall.
6.Remove the four screws that secure the bottom cover to the frame and remove the cover (Figure 41).

7.Disconnect the spring from the notch in the bottom edge of the side plate (Figure 42).

POTENTIAL HAZARD: The spring is under heavy tension.
WHAT CAN HAPPEN: The spring could be thrown in operator’s or bystander’s direction.
HOW TO AVOID THE HAZARD: Use caution when removing the spring.
8.Set the snowthrower upright.
9.Loosen the belt guide (Figure 40).
10.Remove the traction drive belt from the engine pulley and the large traction pulley (Figure 40).
