ACCESSBUILDER NAME SERVER

3.1. Overview

The AccessBuilder “Name Server” software module is intended to reside on a network node (Sun SPARCstation) and includes a security database management program and a security name server program that interface with AccessBuilders.

If you are not using the 3Com provided Name Server on a Sun SPARCstation, you may skip this section.

Figure 3-1 illustrates the data ﬂow during the authentication process initiated by a remote client:

1When a remote user dials into the AccessBuilder and provides the appropriate login information.

2The AccessBuilder generates a Validation Request to the Database Name Server.

3The AccessBuilder Name Server then initiates a database lookup request.

4User database has retrieved the user record and delivered it to the AccessBuilder Name Server.

5The AccessBuilder Name Server then sends a validation response and user data back to the AccessBuilder.

6The AccessBuilder then receives the Validation Response and performs a ﬁnal check before allowing the remote client to access the network.
