Unbalanced Input

Unbalanced wiring typically is found on consumer equipment (CD players, DVD players, etc.) and is generally a compromise of noise rejection and cable lengths. A single conductor and an overall shield are most common, as in the standard cables supplied with consumer equipment. Keep unbalanced wire lengths within 10' between equipment, wire the hot lead to the “+” terminal, and the shield to the ground terminal. Install a jumper wire between the “-” terminal and the ground – a loss of gain will result without this jumper (Figure 4).
