Removal:

1.Remove the Cutting Assembly from the unit. (See “Care and Cleaning”). Use a small Phillips screwdriver to remove the screws on

the unit and pry the two halves apart. You will
see two barrel shaped batteries and
connections. If the batteries have	D
leaked or vented, put on
protective gloves before
touching them.

2. Disconnect the negative (-) black wire from one battery by sliding the connection off the battery (D). Disconnect the positive (+) red wire in the same way. Lift the battery pack out.

Why You Should Recycle Your Rechargeable Batteries?

Unlike alkaline batteries that may last only a few weeks before needing replacement, nickel-cadmium (Ni-Cd) batteries can be recharged over and over again. Though Ni-Cd batteries last far longer than alkalines — usually 5 to 7 years — they eventually will no longer hold a charge. When that happens, some consumers throw away the batteries or the product itself which is wasteful and harmful to the environment. ■Dans des conditions extrêmes, il peut y avoir des fuites au niveau des cellules des piles. Si le liquide (une solution d’hydrogène de potassium

à20-35 p. 100) entre en contact avec la peau, il faut (1) laver immédiatement à l’eau et au savon ou (2) neutraliser à l’aide d’un acide doux (jus de citron ou vinaigre, p. ex.). Si le liquide excitateur atteint les yeux, il faut rincer à l’eau claire pendant au moins dix minutes. Consulter immédiatement un médecin.
