Shooting Problem Subjects for the Autofocus

The autofocus may not work well on the following types of subjects.

zSubjects with extremely low contrast to the surroundings

zSubjects mixing close and far objects

zSubjects with extremely bright objects at the center of the composition

zSubjects that are moving quickly

zWhen shooting through glass, get as close as possible to avoid reflection off the glass.

zSubjects with horizontal stripes

To shoot these subjects, first aim the camera at an object at a similar distance, lock the focus and recompose the image with the desired subject, or use manual focus or AF lock.

1Aim the AF frame at an object at a similar distance to the subject you wish to shoot.

2Press the shutter button halfway to lock the focus.

zThe AE setting will also lock when you do this. The exposure may occasionally be incorrect if the difference between the two items is too great. Use AF lock or AE lock when this happens.

3Keep it pressed while you recompose the image and press the shutter button all the way to shoot the image.
