26 Chapter6 - Basic Configuration Guide
Suggestedfor Dedicated/Leased Line Operation
Dedicatedli ne operationgenerally does notrequire additional parame-
tersfor operation.
Frame Relay DLCI Mappings
Ifyou are connecting to another Compatible Systems router, this infor-
mationis n ot required for Frame Relay operation. Compatible Systems
usesIARP (InverseAddress Resolution Protocol) to dynamically
generate this information. Toconnect to other vendors’ routers which
do not support IARP,y ou must provide DLCI-to-protocol mapping
information.
Note: ManyInternet Service Providers (ISP’s)do not support IARP
asa default. If one of your MicroRouter 1250i interfaces will be
connectedto an ISP via Frame Relay, check with your ISP technical
staffon whether you must manually enter DLCI information or not.
CV: Usethe DLCI Mapping Database Dialog Box (under WAN/Link
Configuration/DLCIbutton).
TB: Use configure and set the DLCI keyword in the Frame Relay
WAN 0 (and/or WAN1) section.
IP Protocol
Thereare two ways to set up Frame Relay. One is to set the WANinter-
faceas a “numberedinterface.” This means that the interface (and thus
theFrame Relay network) will have an IP address, subnet mask, etc.
Theother is t o set it as an unnumberedi nterface and specifythat the
linkis point-to-point Frame Relay and set the local DLCI.
