WAN 0 SMDS Configuration

This sectionco vers thesettin gsrequ iredfor SMDS (Switche d
Multi-megabitData Service) operation of the MicroRouter 1250i WAN
0interface (IP only). SMDS is a connectionless,packet-switched
servicethat offers LAN-to-LAN connectivity across a wide area at up to
1.544Mbps. Notethat the RS-232 (WAN 1) interface can be running
FrameRelay or PPP while thisinterface is running SMDS ,F rame Relay
orPPP. SMDS addresses and other parameters can only be set usingthe
commandline interface.
Note: The IP protocolsettings a nd thep hysical communication
settingsare the same as they would be for Frame Relay operation. The
only parameters which should be set differently for SMDS aret heLin k
Configurationand the SMDS addressing section.
Internal T1 CSU/DSU (WAN 0) Link Configuration
SMDSis presently supported in the MicroRouter 1250i only via
synchronousdedicated line operation.

TB:Useconfigure and then set the Mode and ConnectMode
keywordsin the Link Conf ig WAN0.

SMDS Addressing

Manyof these parameters will be given to you by your service provider.
CV: Use Link Configuration: WAN0 (and/other ports), select SMDS
fromthe Link Type pull-down menu, and click on the SMDS
button.
TB:Useconfigure and set the St ationAddress ,IPMulticastand
PollingFrequencykeywords in the SMDS WAN 0 (and/or other
ports) section.
Saving a Configuration File to Flash ROM
Oncea configuration is complete, you can save it to the router’s Flash
ROM.Until saved, all changes are made in a separate buffer and the
actualrouter interfaces run as before the changes were made.
