Memory Mirroring Support
The system supports memory mirroring if eight identical memory modules are installed in the system.
Mirroring must be ena bled in the System Se tup program and can be used only if memory spa ring is not enabled.
(See "Using the System Se tup Program" on page 31.) In a mirrored configuration, the total available system
memory is one-half of the total installed memory.
Installing Memory Modu les
CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician. You should only perform
troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in your product documentation, or as directed by the online or
telephone service and support team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not cover ed by your
warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came with the product.
CAUTION: The memory modules are ho t to the touch for some time after the system has been powered down.
Allow time for the memory modules to cool before handling them. Handle the memory modules by the card edges
and avoid touching the components on the memory module.

Remove the memory cooling shroud. See "Removing the Memory Cooling Shroud" on page 52.

Locate the memory module sockets. See Figure 6-2.

Press the ejectors on the memory module socket down and out, as shown in Figure 3-13, to allow the
memory module to be inserted into the socket.

Handle each memory modu le only on either card edge, ensuring not to touch the mid dle of the memory
module.
