242 Management: Installing Array Components
Backplane
WARNING: Whenever you need to lift the array, get others to assist you. To avoid
injury, do not attempt to lift the array by yourself.
CAUTION: Many repairs may only be done by a certified service technician.
Youshould only perform troubleshooting and simple repairs as authorized in
yourproduct documentation, or as directed by the online or telephone service
andsupport team. Damage due to servicing that is not authorized by Dell is not
covered by your warranty. Read and follow the safety instructions that came
withthe product.

Removing the Backplane

Turn off the array and disconnect it from the electrical outlet.

Disconnect all the cables connected to the array.

Remove the hard drives. See "Removing a Hard Drive" on page224.

Remove the RAID controller modules. See "Removing a RAID Controller
Module" on page 231.

Remove the power supply/cooling fan modules. See "Removing a Power
Supply/Cooling Fan Module" on page237.

Remove the control panel. See "Removing the Control Panel" on page239.

Remove the screws that secure the RAID controller module /power supply
cage to the chassis.

Grasp the cage removal ring at the bottom center of the array and pull the
RAID controller module /power supply cage toward the back of the chassis.

Loosen the captive screw that secures the backplane to the chassis. See
Figure15-16 for PowerVault MD3600f or Figure15-17 for
PowerVaultMD3620f.

Remove the screws that secure the backplane and pull the backplane out
of the array. See Figure15-16 for PowerVault MD3600f or Figure15-17 for
PowerVault MD3620f.
