OVERVIEW
The Show Designer 3 is a stage lighting controller based on the simple to use Show Designer 1
and Show Designer 2. The Show Designer 3 offers all of the same features and much more. It is
designed to simplify the programming process as much as possible while still offering lots of
power at a low cost. If you are already familiar with the SD1 and SD2 then you will find the
SD3 to be an easy step forward. The SD3 gives you control over 1536 DMX lighting channels
using three DMX 512 outputs. You can control 48 moving light fixtures plus 128 conventional
dimmers. The SD3 supports all popular brands of lighting fixtures. Libraries of fixtures are
available for download at elationlighting.com.
REAR PANEL CONNECTIONS
The rear panel of the Show Designer 3 features the following:
•AC input - using a standard 3 conductor AC cord. A switch is provided for 115-230V
selection. The power switch is also located near the AC input.
•Three DMX 512 outputs - each with a 3 pin and a 5 pin XLR connector.
•MIDI in - used for calling scenes in an automated installation.
•9 pin RS-232 connector - used for connection to a PC to update the software, backup the
memory or download fixture profiles.
•Keyboard connector - used to attach a PS2 style keyboard for data entry.
•Audio input - used for syncing chases to an external audio source. This is a line level input
for connection to the line output of a mixing console. Do not connect speaker level signals
to this.
•Compact Flash Connector - This allows you to back up the memory, install lighting
fixture profiles or update the software using a compact flash card.
