Work piece kickback

ACAUTION
xHold the handle of the sawhead
firmly because the momentum
generated by the motor may
cause the sawhead to move
slightly up or down at start-up.
xTransport the machine only if it is
locked securely in transport posi-
tion. To lock the machine for
transport, lower the sawhead and
push in the transport locking pin.
xDo not carry the machine by the
handle; the handle is not designed
to bear the weight of the machine.
When carrying the machine, hold
it on both sides of the base.
xBe careful to avoid the risk of con-
tusion. Fingers may be squeezed
and in extreme cases crushed
between the sawhead tilt lock
lever and the track arm holder.
Always position the tilt lock lever
(by pulling it out and turning) so
that there is sufficient space
between the lock lever and the
track arm holder.
ADANGER
xUse only parts approved by the
manufacturer. This applies in par-
ticular to saw blades and safety
devices listed in chapter 15, "Tech-
nical Specifications".
AWARNING
xNever use grinding or cut-off
wheels instead of saw blades.
AWARNING
xKeep the machine clean and in
good working condition at all times.
In particular, keep all handles and
adjustment knobs, etc., free of
grease and oil.
AWARNING
xCutting causes friction and gener-
ates heat. Immediately after cut-
ting, the saw blade may be very hot
and pose a fire hazard.
xAlways let the saw blade cool
down, especially before touching it.
xDo not clean a hot saw blade with
combustible liquids.
ADANGER
xDo not use blunt, damaged or
warped saw blades.
xNever attempt to cut any work
pieces which contain
ropes,
strings,
cords,
cables,
wires, or work pieces to which
any of the above are attached.
xWhere applicable or when in doubt,
always check the work piece for
screws, nails or any other matter
which may be embedded.
AWARNING
xDo not use any cleaning agents
that contain acids or caustic or cor-
rosive substances which would
tend to corrode the light metal com-
ponents of the machine. The stabil-
ity and safety of the machine could
be compromised if such sub-
stances were used for removing
resin residue.
xIf resin residue is to be removed,
use a clean cloth.
AWARNING
xMake sure the saw blade is suita-
ble for the material of the work
piece you are cutting.
xCut thin or thin-walled work pieces
only with fine-toothed saw blades.
xMake sure thin or thin-walled work
pieces are supported over their
entire length.
xEnsure proper feeding of work
pieces:
Place work piece on turntable
only when the sawhead assem-
bly is fully raised.
Always hold the work piece
against the fence when cutting.
xAlways use sharp saw blades.
Replace blunt saw blades immedi-
ately. When a blunt, dull or other-
wise damaged saw blade it used,
the risk that a blunt tooth is caught
by the work pieces surface, rather
than cutting through it, increases,
and so does the risk of work piece
kickback, which poses a great dan-
ger of injury to the operator of the
machine.
xCut only work pieces that have
dimensions which allow them to be
safely and securely held (or
clamped) during cutting.
xLong work pieces require support.
xDo not cut bundles or more than
one work piece at a time. When
bundles or more than one work
piece are cut at the same time, the
individual pieces cannot be prop-
erly secured and controlled and
once they then come in contact
with the saw blade serious per-
sonal injury may occur.
xDo not jam work pieces.
xRelease the ON/OFF switch imme-
diately if the saw blade jams.
Unplug the machine. Carefully
remove the jam. Plug the machine
in again. Continue sawing.
xMake sure that when starting up
the machine the saw blade does
not have any contact with the work
piece because otherwise danger-
ous kickback may result.
xNever try to slow the saw blade
down or stop it by pushing the work
piece against the saw blade from
the side.
ADANGER
xBe very careful at all times.
xAlways keep sufficient distance to
the saw blade.
xAlways keep sufficient distance to
all moving or driven components.
AWARNING
xMake sure that the saw blade has
come to a complete standstill
before changing any settin gs or
moving the work piece.
xAlways remove small wood chips
and small pieces from the machine.
Messy work areas can lead to acci-
dents. To remove small wood chips
and small pieces, wait until the saw
blade has come to a complete
standstill. Unplug the machine.
xCarefully remove the small pieces.
Plug the machine in again . Con-
tinue with the work.
xNever fix the ON/OFF switch in the
pressed in (= ON) position. The
switch is supposed to snap back
into the OFF position after being
released.
