address that matches one in the authorized list will be forwarded, all other packets will be dropped. Note that port security is disabled on all ports by default, but can be enabled on a per-port basis by using the console interface menus, the on-board Web agent, or via SNMP.

Broadcast Suppression

Broadcast suppression is a system that prevents a high level of broadcast traffic from overwhelming the network. When enabled on a port, the system monitors the level of broadcast traffic that passes through the port. If the broadcast traffic level rises above a pre-defined packet-per-second threshold, a broadcast-control mechanism will be employed. This mechanism limits the amount of broadcasts passed by the port to half of the received packet-per-second count. The control mechanism remains in effect until the number of received broadcasts falls back below the packet- per-second threshold. Broadcast suppression operation is configurable using the console interface menus, the on-board Web agent, or via SNMP.

Configuration Upload/Download

The VH-8TX1UM/VH-8TX1MF includes the ability to save the current configuration settings to a file on a TFTP server. The file can be later downloaded to the module to restore the switch configuration settings. The configuration save and restore feature is available using the console interface menus, the on-board Web agent, or via SNMP.

BootP

The Bootstrap Protocol (BootP) provides for the capability of passing configuration information to hosts on a TCP/IP network. Using this process, network devices do not need to be configured before they can communicate using the TCP/IP protocol suite. The VH-8TX1UM/VH- 8TX1MF switch uses BootP to automatically configure IP address information without requiring access to the console menus. BootP operation is configurable using the console interface menus, the on-board Web agent, or via SNMP.

Full-Duplex Mode

The full-duplex mode of operation on a port can double the throughput of switch connections. This mode disables the collision detection portion of the Ethernet Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Detection (CSMA/CD) protocol, allowing for two-way traffic. Full duplex is configurable using the console interface menus, the on-board Web agent, or via SNMP.

Flow Control

Flow control allows you to manage network traffic during congestion periods and to prevent the loss of packets when port buffer thresholds are exceeded. Flow control also serves to deny access to additional traffic
