Backing Up Your Files

Be sure to back up your files regularly. For large amounts of data, you might want to consider a portable tape backup unit. Make copies of all your system and applicatioon program diskettes before copying the programs to the hard disk.

Your computer comes with video drivers and utilities already installed on the hard disk. To protect these these important files, you should back them up before you begin using your system. The files are located in two directories, C:\WINDOWS\VGAUTIL and C:\VGAUTIL.

Your can back up these directories using either the Windows File Manager or the MS-DOS XCOPY command.

See your MS-DOS or Windows documentation f o r m o r e information about copying files and directories. See page 2-10 for more information about using the video utilites and drivers.

Using the Password Function

The ActionNote provides password security for the entire system or only the Setup program. This allows you to safeguard all your data or only your Setup configuration. The passward function is optional and you do not have to set a password if you don't wantdon’twant

You use the Setup program to first enable or disable a password and then define it. (See Chapter 5 for instructions.)

If you enable the power-on password, you must enter it each time you turn on or reset your computer. (Resetting the computer is described later in this chapter.) The computer prompts you for the password after it completes its power-on diagnostics.
