Wiring for RS-232 Control (Optional)

If the source requires HDCP encryption and the display is not HDCP compliant, that output channel outputs a green screen.

Both outputs carry +5 VDC and up to 250 mA on pin 18, regulated by a current limiting circuit.

Wiring for RS-232 Control (Optional)

RS-232 communication between the HDMI DA2 and a host PC can be used to update firmware or configure the distribution amplifier using SIS commands (see Command and Response Table for SIS Commands on page 17).

The computer connects to either the rear panel 3-pole RS-232 port (D in figure 2 on page 3) or the front panel USB port (B in figure 7 on page 10) of the distribution amplifier.

NOTES:

Neither port has precedence and commands from either port are handled in the order they are received.

Extron recommends that the USB port is used for temporary connections. If a permanent connection is required, the RS-232 port should be used.

1.Connect an RS-232 cable, such as Extron universal control cable (UC 50' or UC100') to the computer, using a female 9-pin D connector (see figure 3, below):

Data received by the computer = pin 2 Data transmitted by the computer = pin 3 Ground = pin 5

2.Wire the opposite end of the cable to the provided 3-pole captive screw plug (see figure 3):

Data transmitted by the HDMI DA2 = pin 1, which plugs into the Tx (transmit) port Data received by the HDMI DA2 = pin 2, which plugs into the Rx (receive) port Ground = pin 3, which plugs into the G (ground) port

NOTES:

The wiring in the RS-232 cables crosses over so that the Tx on the distribution amplifier connects to the Rx of the control device and vice versa. Ground always connects to ground.

If you use cable that has a drain wire, tie the drain wire to the ground at both ends.

HDMI DA2 specifications

The Extron Electronics HDMI DA2 is a high-performance distribution amplifier designed to deliver pristine HDMI signals to multiple display devices. Ideal for a variety of applications, including classrooms, conference rooms, and control centers, this device ensures that high-definition video and audio are flawlessly transmitted without degradation over distance.

One of the standout features of the HDMI DA2 is its ability to support resolutions up to 4K at 60Hz, enabling it to handle the most demanding video content. With its advanced signal processing capabilities, the DA2 ensures that the integrity of the signal is maintained, allowing for crystal-clear images and sound.

The DA2 is equipped with two HDMI outputs, allowing users to distribute a single HDMI source to two different displays simultaneously. Each output is capable of driving long cable runs—up to 50 feet for 4K signals—thanks to its robust signal amplification technology. This is especially beneficial in larger environments where displays may be located at significant distances from the source.

For added convenience, the Extron HDMI DA2 features EDID (Extended Display Identification Data) management, which allows the device to communicate effectively with connected displays. This ensures that the source and display can agree on the optimal video settings, enhancing compatibility and performance across diverse equipment.

Another notable characteristic is the automatic input switching feature, which allows the device to seamlessly switch between multiple HDMI sources if used in conjunction with other Extron products. This is particularly useful in situations where multiple devices may need to be accessed without the hassle of manual intervention.

The HDMI DA2 is also designed with ease of use in mind. It includes LED indicators that provide users with real-time feedback on power, input selection, and signal status. This streamlined approach helps in quickly diagnosing any issues that may arise during operation.

In terms of installation, the DA2 is compact and rack-mountable, making it a versatile choice for any AV system setup. With its rugged build quality and reliability, the Extron HDMI DA2 is tailored for professionals who demand high performance and dependability from their audio-visual equipment. Overall, this HDMI distribution amplifier is a critical component for any AV system requiring superior signal management for multiple displays.
