dEXP. COMPENSATION

Use exposure compensation when photographing very bright, very dark, or high-contrast sub- jects.

Choose positive (+) values to increase exposure

Choose negative (–) values to reduce exposure

Choosing an Exposure Compensation ValueBacklit subjects: choose val-

ues from +2/3 EV to +12/3 EV (for an explanation of the term “EV”, see the Glossary on page 105)

Highly reflective subjects orvery bright scenes (e.g., snow- fi elds): +1 EVScenes that are mostly sky: +1 EV

Spotlit subjects (particularly if photographed against dark backgrounds): 2/3EV

Subjects with low reflectivity (pine trees or dark-col- ored foliage): 2/3EV

Exposure compensation is available in Nand Mmodes only.

At settings other than ±0, a l icon is displayed in the monitor. Exposure compensation is not reset when

the camera is turned off; to restore normal exposure control, choose a value of ±0. Exposure compensation is disabled when the fl ash is set to AUTO or V(auto with red-eye reduction); when the fl ash is set to Kor U, exposure compensation is disabled if the subject is dark.
