Drum Alignment

To ensure good sanding results, the conveyor belt and sanding drum must be parallel with each other from side to side (see the illustration in Figure 34). Otherwise, more material will be removed from one side of the workpiece than the other.

The goal of this procedure is to bring the conveyor belt and sanding drum parallelism within 0.05" dif- ference from side to side.

To check and adjust the conveyor belt to sand- ing drum parallelism:

1.Make sure the gibs are properly adjusted.

2.Plane the board so that the thickness on each side of it is equal.

3.Take several light cuts through the sander without rotating or flipping the board.

4.Make measurements at "A" and "B" as indi- cated in Figure 34.

—If measurement "A" is less than "B", loosen or remove the cap screws on the right con- veyor support (see Figure 35) and shim between the support and frame to com- pensate for the difference between "A" and "B".

5.Repeat Steps 2–4to verify the adjustment. If necessary, repeat this procedure until the conveyor belt and sanding drum parallelism is within 0.05" difference from side to side.
