Important Safety Instructions
ImPORtant Safety InStRUctIOnS Specic to Secondary
Means of Protection Against Entrapment
AsspeciedbyUnderwritersLaboratoriesInc.UL325(30A.1.1), automaticgateoperatorsshallhaveprovisions
for, or be supplied with, at least one independent primary and one independent secondary means to protect
against entrapment. GTO gate operators utilize Type A, an inherent entrapment sensing system, as the primary
type of entrapment protection. The GP-SW050 operators have provisions for the connection of Type B1, B2, or
D protection to be used as the secondary type of entrapment protection.
1.Forgateoperatorsutilizinganon-contactsensor(TypeB1)inaccordancewithUL325(51.8.4[h]):
A. Refertothesensormanufacturer’s instructions on the placement of non-contact sensors for each type of
application.
B. Careshallbeexercisedto reducetheriskofnuisancetripping,such aswhenavehicletripsthe sensor

C. Oneormorenon-contact sensorsshallbelocatedwhere theriskofentrapmentor obstructionexists,
such as the perimeter reachable by a moving gate or barrier.
2.Forgateoperatorsutilizingacontactsensor(TypeB2)inaccordancewithUL325(51.8.4[i]):
A. Oneormorecontactsensorsshallbelocatedattheleadingedge,trailingedge,andpostmountedboth
insideandoutsideofavehicularswinggatesystem.
B. Ahardwiredcontactsensorshallbelocatedanditswiringarrangedsothatthecommunicationbetween
the sensor and the gate operator is not subjected to mechanical damage.
C. Awirelesscontactsensor suchasonethattransmits radiofrequency(RF)signalsto thegateoperator
forentrapmentprotection functions shall be located where the transmission of the signals are not
obstructedorimpeded bybuildingstructures, naturallandscapingor similarobstruction. Awireless
contact sensor shall function under the intended end-use conditions.
3. For gate operators utilizing an actuating device requiring continuous pressure to maintain opening or
closingmotionofthegate(TypeD)inaccordancewithUL325(51.8.4[e]):

B. Warning signs (see page 6) shall be placed adjacent to the controls.
