4. Clean the filters.
Paper element: Tap the element lightly several times on a hard
surface to remove excess dirt, or blow compressed air [not
exceeding 30 psi (207 kPa)] through the filter element from the
inside out. Never try to brush the dirt off; brushing will force dirt into
the paper fibers. Replace the paper element if it is excessively dirty
or damaged.
Foam element cleaning: Wash SOLVENT
the element in a solution of ENGINE OIL
household detergent and warm
water, then rinse thoroughly, or
wash in nonflammable solvent. @$a*(, ,j

Allow element to dry @
thoroughly. Soak the element
in clean engine oil and squeeze SQUEEZE 4

Excess oil will restrict air flow through the foam filter element and
may transfer to the paper filter element, soaking and clogging it.
Wipe dirt from the inside of the
air cleaner housing and cover.
Be careful to prevent dirt from
entering the air duct that leads
to the carburetor.
Install the foam element over
the paper element, and install
the assembled air filter. Secure
the air filter with the inner wing
nut. Make sure the rubber
washer is in place under the
filter elements.

and secure with the outer wing
nut.
