11.3 IXFP Monitoring
The IBM Extended Facilities Product (IXFP) is a host software that helps to
manage the RVA.IXFP provides an additional level of cache control for RVA
beyondthat provided by the local operator panel. In addition, IXFP maximizes the
benefits of RVA'svirtual storage architecture by allowing interactive control of
activities such as subsystem administration and reporting.
The IXFP facilities are described in more detail in the RAMAC Virtual Array
Storage Introduction, GC26-7168, and IXFP Configurationand A dministration,
SC26-7178, manuals.
IXFP subsystem configuration facilities enable the user to control RVA's
functional deviceconfiguration, as it appears to the host. In addition, the user can
control subsystem storage director and channel path parameters or perform
physical deviceoperations such as forming arrays or draining devices. IXFP also
reports on the physical and functional configuration of an RVA subsystem.
Besides its system reporting feature, IXFP provides extended operatorc ontrol
facilities and schedules the execution of deleted data space release (DDSR).
IXFP allows the user to control the time and frequency of DDSR's execution to
minimize possible interference with normal operations.
IXFP can continuously monitor and report on subsystem performance and
capacity load statistics. Itcan provide detailed monitoring data for a subsystem.
The data can then be used to understand the operation of the subsystem and to
optimize RVA'sperformance and capacity utilization.
The IXFP Reporter facility component reports on functional device and cache
performance and on space utilization. Several predefined reports and graphs of
this data are available. The Reporter facility also provides the user with
subsystem data in a flat file or in SMF,which can be manipulated by the user's
