WHAT ISCLOSED CAPTIONING?
Thistelevision hasthe capability to decode and display
ClosedCaptioned _evision programs. Ciceed
Captioningwitl display toxt on the screen for hearing
impairedviewers Or itwill translate and display text in
anotherisnguage.
CLOSED CAPTiONiNG WITH AVCR
Closed Captioned programscan berecOrded and pioyed
beckon aVCR with theClased Captioned text intact.
The ClosedCaptioned textwill disapbear during Cue
(FastForward Search), Review (Rewind Search) and
PauseModes or if the VCR tracking is notadjusted
properly.
TO VIEW CLOSED CAPTIONS
Press the W/CAP/TEXT betto_ onthe remote controlto
switchbetween normal TV and the two Closed Caption
Modes(C_otions and Full Screen Text).
Captions: This Closed Caption Mode will displaytext
onthe screen in English or another language (depend-
ingo11thesetting ofthe ClosedCaptions CH. Channel 1
orChannel 2).
Generally, Closed Captions inEnglish are transmitted
onCaptions Channel 1 and Closed Captions in other
languagesare transmitted on Captions Channel 2.
Text: The TextClased Caption Mode willusually fill the
screenwith a programming schedule orother information.
Afterselecting aClosed Caption Mode, itwill stay in
effectuntil it is changed, even if the channel is changed.
Ifthe Captionssignal islost due to acomrnerciat or a
break in the signal, the Captions will reappear when the
signal is receivedagain.
Ifthe channels are changed, the Captions will be
delayed
approximately 10seconds.
The Captions will appear in placeson the screen where
they will least intedete withthe picture, usually onthe
bottomof the screen: News programs will usuallyshow
three-line Closed Captions which scrollonto the screen.
Most other shows providetwo or three lined Captions
placed near the character who is speakingso the viewer
can follow the dialogue.
Wordsin italicsor underlined describetitles, words in
foreignlanguages or words requiringemphasis. Words
thatare sung usually appear encto_ed by musical notes.
Fortelevision programs broadcasting with Closed Cap-
tions,look in your TV guide for the Closed Capgons
symbol(CC).
ThisTV/VCR isequipped with achannel memory feature which allows channels toskip up or downto the next
channelset intomemory, skipping over unwanted channels. Before selecting channels, they must be programmed
intothe TV/VCR's memory. In apdidon to ngrmal VHF and UHF channels, this I"V/VCR can receive upto 11_3Cable
TVchannels. Touse this TV/VCR with an antenna, set the W/CAW menu optionto the TV mode. When shipped
from the factory,this menu option isin the CATV mode.

• When selectingClosed Captions, the captioning will ha deisyed approximately 10 seconds.
Ifno caption signei isreceived, no captions will appear, butthe televisionwill remain in the Caption Mode.
• Misspellingsor unusualcharacters may occasionally appear during Closed Captioning. This is normal with
Clased Captioning, especially with live programs. This isbecause dur_g live programs, captions are also
entered rive.These transmissionsdo notallow time for od_ng.
• "Whenthe on-screen indicator appears during volume adjustment operation, etc., Clcaed Caption textwill not
bedisplayed.
Some Cable systems and copy protection systems may interfere with the Closed Captioned signal.
Ifusingan indoor antenna or ifTV reception is very poor,the Closed CaplJonDecoder may not appear or
mayappear withstrangecharacters ormisspelled words. Inthis case, adjust the antenna for better reception
oruse an outdoor antenna.
