Ifyour watersoftener fails towork, makethe followingeasy checks. Often, you will find what's wrong
yourseffand you won't have to cell and wait for service. If, after making the checks, your softener still
does notwork right, call your Sears Service Department.
NOTE:
Alsoread ERROR CODE, page 10. If an error code is notdisplayed, pressand holdthe SELECT button
until(example:000 --) shows inthe display. Then press SELECT again and hold untilan SC code ap-
pears. Itmust show SC21. If any other SC number shows, the softener computer isworking on incor-
rect inputand would probably be the cause of the problem. Toset SC21, press either the UP _or
DOWN [_]button. Then, press select toretum a flashing 12:00 AM display, and reset the timer,page 6.

faucets to purgesalttaste.
Refillwithsail,orbreak thesalt badge(page 14). Usethe
RECHARGE NOW featureto start a recharge.
Checkfor lossof power due to anyof theseand correct.

Manual bypass valve(s) in bypass Lookat FIG. 12on page18. Move the stem in a single
position, valveto service. In a 3-valve bypass,open the inletand
outletvalves, andbe sureto fullyclosathabypessvalve.
Dirty,plugged or damagednozzle & Take apart and clean or replace damaged parts (see
ventud, page 15).
Valvedrainhose plugged. The drainhose mustnot have kinks,sharpbends,or be
raisedto high above the softener (see page 16 inyour
installationmanual).
WATER HARD SOME- Hardnessnumbersettingtoo low. Pressand releasethe SELECT button untilHARDNESS
TIMES !showsin the display.Read the hardnessnumberinthe
Idisplayand be surethe same grainspergallon number
isshownon yourwateranalysis report.See page7 to re-
set.Pressand release theSELECT buttonuntilthe pres-
enttime showsinthe display.
Usinghotwater when softener isre- Avoid usinghotwaterduringthis time becausethewater
generating, heater refills with hard water (see Automatic Bypass,
page 13).
Increaseinthe grains ofhardness in Ask your Sears retail store for a new water analysis.
