Power-ring-light statusPicture is not clear ■To automatically set exposure and focus, press the Shutter
button halfway and hold. When the AF/AE indicator turns
green, press the Shutter button completely down to take
the picture.
■Clean the lens (page 64).
■Make sure camera is not in Close-up mode if you are more
than 21 in. (0.7 m) from your subject.
■Place the camera on a flat, steady surface or use a tripod,
especially in high-zoom settings or in low light.
Status Cause
Power ring does not
turn on and the
camera does not
work.
■Turn on the camera.
■Recharge the battery or install a new one (page 2).
■Turn Mode dial off, then back on.
Power ring glows
steady green.
■Camera is on and ready to take a picture or video.
Power ring glows
steady amber.
■Camera is in Favorite mode.
■Camera firmware update is in process.
■Camera is connected to computer, USB connection
is active.
■Date and time set with lens retracted.
Power ring
blinks green.
■Camera turned off while picture is being processed and
saved. Camera operating normally. Processing is
completed before power off.
■Do not remove the card while the light is blinking.
■Camera operating normally at power up. Take pictures
when the blinking stops.
■Camera operating normally during connect mode to
computer.
Power ring
blinks amber.
■Battery is low or exhausted. Recharge the
battery (page 2).
■Internal camera temperature is too high. Turn the camera
off for several minutes; then turn it back on. If the
condition continues, get help (page60).
