Troubleshooting the MONTEBELLOLSM40ST FIREPLACE

Note: Before troubleshooting the gas control system, make sure the external gas shutoff valve (located at gas supply inlet) is in the “ON” position.

Important: Valve system troubleshooting should only be accomplished by a qualified service technician.

1.

Nothing happens when fireplace

A. Remote is not functioning properly.

Check that the wall switch plate is set to remote

The main burner does not light,

A. Gas is not reaching the fireplace.

Check the gas supply and gas shutoff valves.

 

and the igniter is sparking.

 

 

 

 

B. Loose wires to the valve.

Check control compartment for any obvious loose

C. Loose wires to ignition module.

Check control compartment for any obvious loose

D. Air in the gas line.

The main Burner comes on,

A. Gas is not reaching the fireplace.

Check the gas supply and gas shutoff valves.

 

but then goes out.

 

 

 

 

B. Loose wires to valve or ignition module.

Check control compartment for any obvious loose

 

 

 

 

 

wiring (call a service technician, if required).

 

 

 

 

 

 

C. Pilot flame is not engulfing the sensor.

Call a service technician.

 

 

 

 

 

 

D. Obstructed vent system.

Call a service technician.

 

 

 

 

4.

Soot is present on logs and glass.

A. Excessive flame impingement on logs.

Check for proper log placement.

 

 

 

 

 

 

B. Improper air shutter opening.

Open the air shutter by pulling on the air shutter
