MP3

The CDR510 can play most discs** that include MP3* files. The CDR510 cannot duplicate an MP3 disc but can record audio from an MP3 disc onto a blank CD-R or CD-RW disc, see How to record MP3.

MP3 playback and recording

MP3 discs can be recognized in the CD drive only. Reading an MP3 disc for playback or recording requires additional instructions be loaded into the memory of the CDR510. This takes about 10 seconds.

When MP3 instructions are loaded into the CDR510 memory depends on the setting of AUTO MP3 LOAD. With AUTO MP3 LOAD ON, loading MP3 instructions takes place on power up. If you often play MP3 discs this option avoids delay when you insert an MP3 disc. With AUTO MP3 LOAD OFF, loading MP3 instructions does not take place until an MP3 disc is recognized in the CD drive or MP3 LOAD is activated. If you rarely play MP3 discs this option speeds power up.

*“MP3” refers to music data which has been compressed by a file format known as “MPEG-1 Audio Layer 3.” Files with the “.mp3” or “.MP3” extension are called MP3 files.

The ID3 tag is supported by the CDR510. ID3 is a format that adds title information to MP3 files.

**The following technical issues can result in MP3 incompatibility with the CDR510:

MP3 files recorded using the packet writing method are not compatible for playback in the CDR510.

Compatible MP3 sampling frequencies include 32-48 kHz.

Compatible bit rates allowed include 32-320 kbps.

The type of PC, software and media used for recording might be incompatible.

The disc may contain too many sessions or files.

A "session" occurs each time a recording is made and finalized. When a CD-RW disc is unfinalized and tracks are added it creates an additional session on the disc. This is also

applicable to CD-R discs that are recorded in some PC applications where finalizing is not necessary to provide multi-sessions.

Recommended: the disc contain no more than 10 sessions, 20 Albums (including all sessions) and a maximum of 20 files.
