Focus Lock

When Single AF is selected for Focus mode (0 128), focus lock can be used to change the composition after focusing on the subject in the center of the frame, allowing you to focus on a subject that will not be in the center of the final composition. If the camera is unable to focus using autofocus (0 130), you can also focus on another subject at the same distance and then use focus lock to recompose the photograph. Focus lock is most effective when an option other than Auto-areais selected for AF-area mode (0 133).

1 Lock focus.

Position the subject in the center of the frame and press the shutter- release button halfway to initiate focus. Check that the focus area is dis- played in green. Focus will remain locked while the shutter-release but- ton is pressed halfway.

2 Recompose the photograph and shoot.

Focus will remain locked between shots.

i

Do not change the distance between the camera and the sub- ject while focus lock is in effect. If the subject moves, lift your fin- ger from the shutter-release button to end focus lock and then focus again at the new distance.
