Sp Distance

Here you can specify the distance from each speaker to the listening position so that the sound from each speaker arrives at the listener’s ears as the sound designer intended.

Note

These settings are disabled when:

a pair of headphones is connected, or

the “Audio TV Out” setting is set to “On” (page 35), or

HDMI Ctrl (RIHD)” is set to “On” (page 34) and you’re listening through your TV speakers, or

Speakers B is on, or

Speakers A is off.

Speakers that you set to “No” or “None” in the “Sp Config (Speaker Configuration)” (page 29) cannot be selected.

Unit

`feet:

Distances can be set in feet. Range: 1ft to 30ft in 1 foot steps.

`meters:

Distances can be set in meters. Range: 0.3m to 9.0m in 0.3 meter steps.

(The default setting varies from country to country.)

Level Cal

Here you can adjust the level of each speaker with the built-in test tone so that the volume of each speaker is the same at the listening position.

`–12 dB to 0 dB to +12 dB in 1 dB step.

Subwoofer*1

`–15 dB to 0 dB to +12 dB in 1 dB step.

Default setting: 0 dB (excluding European models), +3 dB (European models)

Note

Speakers that you set to “No” or “None” in the “Sp Config (Speaker Configuration)” (page 29) cannot be selected.

These settings cannot be calibrated in either of the following cases:

a pair of headphones is connected.

Speakers B is on.

Speakers A is off.

the “Audio TV Out” setting is set to “On” (page 35).

HDMI Ctrl (RIHD)” is set to “On” (page 34) and you’re listening through your TV speakers.

the AV receiver is muted.

*1 For the center speaker and subwoofer, the level settings made by using AUDIO are saved here as the default settings.

Tip

If you’re using a handheld sound level meter, adjust the level of each speaker so that it reads 75 dB SPL at the listening position, measured with C-weighting and slow reading.

To fully enjoy Audyssey Dynamic EQ® (page 32) and Audyssey Dynamic Volume® (page 32), we recommend that you manually adjust the level of each speaker using the above-mentioned settings.
