Applicable modes:
AF Assist Lamp will illuminate the subject when the shutter button is pressed half-way
making it easier for the camera to focus when recording in low light conditions. (Larger AF
area is displayed depending on the recording conditions.)
[OFF]/[ON]
Note
•The effective range of the AF Assist Lamp is 1.5m (4.92 feet).
•When you do not want to use the AF Assist Lamp A (e.g. when taking
pictures of animals in dark places), set the [AFASSIST LAMP] to [OFF]. In
this case, it will become more difficult to focus on the subject.
•Remove the lens hood.
•A vignetting effect may appear on the circumference of the AF Assist Lamp
because the AF Assist Lamp may be obscured by the lens, however, this
does not cause a problem with the performance of the camera.
•In the following cases, [AF ASSIST LAMP] is fixed to [OFF].
–In [NIGHT SCENERY], [HANDHELD NITE SHOT] and [ILL UMINATIONS] in
[NIGHT PORTRAIT]
–In [SUNSET], [PANNING], [FIREWORKS] and [AERIALPHOTO] in Scene Mode
•Refer to P67 for details.
Applicable modes:

of moving objects such as cars using a slow shutter speed.
Note
•Set it to [1ST] for normal use.
•[2nd] is displayed in the flash icon on the screen if you set [FLASH SYNCHRO] to [2ND].
•When a fast shutter speed is set, the effect of [FLASH SYNCHRO] may deteriorate.
