Näytön valotiheys videojännitteen funktiona noudattelee matemaattista potenssifunktiota jonka eksponenttia kutsutaan gammaksi.

Grayscale (Harmaasävy)

Väririippumaton asteikko joka ulottuu mustasta harmaan eri sävyjen kautta valkoiseen. Tällaista sarjaa voidaan edetä askelittain, niin että niiden etäisyys seuraavaan on aina sama. Jos näytön A/D-muunnin on 8 bittinen, se pystyy näyttämään enintään 28 = 256 sävyä. R.G. B.-värinäytössä jokaisella näistä väreistä on 256 sävyä. Se tarkoittaa että näytöllä voidaan näyttää 256x256x256= 16,7 miljoonaa eri sävyä.

HDCP

HDCP (High-Bandwidth Digital Content Protection) on DVI-liitännässä käytetty tekijänoikeuksien suojausjärjestelmä. Se mahdollistaa tekijänoikeuksien alaisen sisällön kopioinnin estämisen.
