IMPORTANT

Use of alcohol blended fuels (called gas ohol or
usingethanol or met hanol) can cause major en-
gine performance and durability problems.
WARNING: A lternative fuels (not gas -
oline) such as E--15 (15% alcohol), E--20 (20%
alcohol),E --85(85% alcohol) are NOT cl assified
as gasoline and are NOT appr oved for use in
2--stroke gasoline engines. Use of alternative
fuels will cause problems such as: improper
clutch engagements, overheating, vapor lock ,
power loss, lubrication deficiency, deteriorat ion
of fuel lines, gaskets and internal carburetor
components, etc. Alternative fuels caus e high
moisture absorption into the fuel/oil mixtur e
leadingto oil and fuel separation.

BAR AND CHAIN LUBRICATION

Thebar and chain require lubr ication. The chain
oilerprov ides continuous lubrication to thec hain
and guide bar. Be sure to fill the bar oil tank
whenyou f ill the fuel tank (Capacity = 4.6 fl. oz.).
Lack of oil will quickl y ruin the bar and chain.
Too little oil will cause overheating shown by
smoke coming from the chain and/or dis color-
ation of the bar. The oil outpu t is automatically
metered during operation. Always fill the bar oil
tank when you fill the fuel tank.
Genuine Poulan or Poulan PRO bar and
chainoil is rec ommended toprotec t your unit
against excessive wear from heat and fric -
tion. Poulan or Poulan PRO oilresists high
temperature thinning. If Poulan or Poulan
PRO bar and chain oil is not available, use a
goodgr ade SAE 30 oil.
SNever use waste oil for bar and chain
lubrication.
SAlways stop the engine before removing
the oil cap.

HOW TO STOP YOUR UNIT

SRelease the throttle trigger.
SPush and release the engine ON/STOP
switch. The switch will automatically return
to the ON position. Wait 5 seconds before
attempting to restart unit to allow switch to
reset.

HOW TO STARTYOUR UNIT

WARNING: Make s ure the chain will
not make contact with any object while start-
ingthe engine. Never try to start the unit when
the guide bar is in a cut. Avoid any contact
withthe muffler. A hot muffler c an cause seri-
ous burns.

4. Pullstarter rope handle sharply untilen-
gines tarts and runs.
5. Allowunit to r un for 10--15sec onds, then
fully squeeze the throttle trigger to disen -
gage the starting system.

STARTINGA WARM ENGINE

1. Squeezeand hold the throttle trigger.
2. Pullstarter rope sharply while squeezing
throttle trigger until engine runs.
NOTE: Normally, the warm starting proce-
dure can be used within 5--10 minutes after
the unit is turned off. If the unit sits for more
than 10 minutes without being ran, it will be
necessary to start the unit by following the
stepsunder S TARTINGA CO LD ENGINE or
followingthe s tarting instruction steps s hown
on the unit.

STARTINGA FLOODED ENGINE

Flooded engines can be started by placing
the start lever to the RUN position. Fully
squeeze throttle trigger. Pull the starter han-
dlerepeatedly while squeez ing throttletr igger
until engine starts and runs. This c ould re-
quire pulling the starter handle many times,
depending on how badly the unit is flooded.
If the unit still doesn’t start, refer to
TROUBLESHOOTING TABLE or call
