MAINTENANCE

CHECK FOR DAMAGED OR

WORN PARTS

Contact an authorized service dealer for re-
placement of damaged or worn parts.
SON/STOP Switch -- Ensure ON/STOP
switch functions properly by pushing and
releasing the switch. Make sure engine
stops. Wait5 s econds before attempting to
restart unit to allow switch to reset. Restart
engineand c ontinue.
SFuel tank -- Discontinue use of unit if fuel
tank shows signs of damage or leaks.
SOiltank -- Discontinueus e of unit if oil tank
shows signs of damage or leaks.

INSPECTAND CLEAN UNIT AND LA-

SAfter each use, inspect complete unit for
looseor damaged parts. Cleanthe unit and
labelsusing a damp c loth with a mild deter-
gent.
SWipeoff unit w ith a clean dry cloth.

CHECK CHAIN TENSION

WARNING: Wear protect ive gloves
whenhandling chain. Thechain is sharp and
cancut you ev en when it is not moving. Make
chainadjus tments with lower end supported.
Chain tension is very important. Chains
stretchduring use. Thisis especially true dur-
ingthe first few times you use your pruner. Al-
ways check chain tension each time you use
andr efuel your unit.
1. Usethe screwdriver end of the chain ad-
justment tool (bar tool) to move chain
around guide bar to ensure kinks do not
exist. The chain should rotate freely.

2. Loosenbarclamp nut until it is finger tight
against the bar clamp.

3. Turn adjusting screw clockwise until
chainsolidly contac ts bottomof guide bar
rail. Then, turn adjusting screw an addi-
tional 1/4 turn.

4. Usingbar tool, rol l chain around guide bar
to ensure all links are in bar groove.
5. Liftup tip of guide bar to check for sag.
Releasetip of guide bar, then turn adjust-
ingscrew 1/4 t urn clockwise. Repeat until
sag does not exist.
6. Whilelifting tip of guide bar, tighten bar
clamp nut securely with the bar tool.
7. Usethes crewdriver end of the bar tool to
move chain around guide bar.
8. Ifc haindoes not rotate, it is too tight.
Slightly loosen bar clamp nut and loosen
chain by turning the adjusting screw 1/4
turn counterclockwise. Retighten bar
clamp nut.
9. Ifchain is too loose, it will sag below the
guide bar and needs to be tightened fol-
lowing above procedure.
WARNING : DO NOT operate the
prunerif the c hain is loose. Ifthe pruner is oper -
atedwith a loose chain, the chain c ould jump off
the guide bar and result in serious injury.

CHECK CHAIN SHARPNESS

Asharp chain mak es wood chips. A dull chain
makes a sawdust powder and cuts slowly.
