10. Ins pect the muffler gasket and replace if
damaged.
11. Reinstall bac kplate, outlet guide, muffler
gasket, and muffler using muffler bolts.
Tightenuntil s ecure.
12. Reinstall bolt c over and locknut. Tighten
securely.

CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT

WARNING: The c hain will be mov-
ingduring most of this procedure. Wear your
protective equipment and observe all safety
precautions.The chain must not mov e at idle
speed.
Thecar buretor has been carefully set at the
factory. Adjustments may be necessary if
you notice any of the following conditions:
SChainmov es at idle. See IDLE SPEED--T
adjusting procedure.
SSawwill not idle. See ID LES PEED--T ad-
justing procedure.

Idle Speed--T

Allowengine to idle. If the chain mov es, idle
istoo fast. If t he engine stalls, idle is too slow.
Adjusts peed until engine runs without chain
movement (idle too fast) or stalling (idle too
slow). T he idle speed screw is located in the
areaabov et he primer bulb and is labeled T.
STurnidle speed s crew (T) clockwise to in-
crease engine speed.
STurn idle speed screw (T) counterclock-
wise to decrease engine speed.

BAR MAINTENANCE

Ifyour saw c uts to one side, has to be forc ed
throughthe cut, or been run w ith animproper
amount of bar lubrication it may be neces -
saryto servic e your bar. A worn bar will dam-
agey our chain and make cutting difficult.
After each use, ensure ON/STOP switch is
inthe STOP position, then clean all sawdus t
from the guide bar and sprocket hole.
Tomaintain guide bar:
SMoveON/ STOP switch to the STOP posi-
tion.
SLoosenand r emove chain brake nuts and
chain brake. Removebar and chain from
saw.
SClean the oil holes and bar groove after
each 5 hours of operation.

SBurring of guide bar rails is a normal
process of rail wear. Remove these burrs
with a flat file.
SWhenrail top is uneven, us e a flat file to re-
store square edges and sides.

Replace guide bar when the groove is worn ,
theguide bar is bent or c racked, or when exce-
ss heating or burring of the rail s occurs. If re-
placementis neces sary, use only the guide bar
specified for your saw in the repair parts lis tor
on the decal located on the chain saw.

CHAIN SHARPENING

Chains harpening is a complicated task that
requires special tools. We recommended
your efer chain sharpening to a professional
chain sharpener.

IGNITIONTIMING

Ignition timing is fixed and nonadjustable.

SPARKPLUG

The spark plug should be replaced each
year to ensure the engine starts easier and
runs better.
1. Loosen3 screws on c ylinder cover.
2. Removethe cylinder cov er.
3. Pulloff the spark plug boot.
4. Remove spark plug from cylinder and
discard.
5. Replacewith Champion RCJ --7Yspark
plugand tighten secur ely with a 3/4 inch
(19mm) s ocket wrench. Spark plug gap
should be 0.025 inch (0.6 mm).
6. Reinstallthe spark plug boot.
7. Reinstall the c ylinder cover and 3
screws. Tightensec urely.
