PRUNING

WARNING: B e alert for and guard
against kickback. Do not allow the mov ing
chain to contact any other branches or objects
at the nose of the guide bar when pruning. Al-
lowing such contact can result i n serious injury.

IMPORTANTPOINTS

SWork slowly, keeping both hands firmly
gripped on the pruner. Maintain secure
footing and balance.
SPlan cut carefully. Check direction branc h
will fall.
SWatch out for springpoles. Springpoles are
small size limbs which can catch the chain
and whip toward you or pull you off balance.
Use extreme caution when cutting small size
limbs or slender material.
SWatch out for branches immediately behind
thebranc h being pruned. Ifthe chain hits the
rear branch, damage to the unit may occur.
SBe alert for springback. Watch out for
branches that are bent or under pressure.
Avoid being struck by the branch or the
prunerw hen the tension in the wood fibers
is released.
SKeep a clear work area. Frequently clear
branches out of the way to avoid tripping
over them.
SLong branches should be removed in
several pieces.

PRUNING TECHNIQUE

When ready to cut, accelerate to full throttle
and apply a light cutting pressure. DON OT
use back and forth sawing action.

Firstcut
1. Make the first cut 6 inches (15 cm) from
the tree trunk on the bottom of the limb.
Usetop of guide bar to make this c ut. Cut
1/3 through the diameter of the limb.
NOTE: When making the second and third
cuts, rest the foot of the pruner against the
treelimb that is being cut to prevent whipping
of the branch.

2. Next, move 2 --4 inches (5 -- 10 cm) far-

ALWAYSWEAR:
Cut from your right to your left.
WARNING : Alwayswearey e protec-
tion. Never lean over the trimmer head.
Rocks or debris can ric ochet or be throw n into
eyes and face and cause blindness or other
serious injury.
Donot run the engine at a higher speed than
necessary. The cutting line will cut efficiently
whenthe engine is run at less than full throttle.
At lower speeds, there is les s engine noise
and vibration. The cutting line will last longer
andwill be less likely to “weld” onto the spool.
Always release the throttle trigger and allow
the engine to return to idle speed when not
cutting.
Tostop engine:
SRelease the throttle trigger.
SMove the ON/OFF switch to the OFF
position.

TRIMMER LINE ADVANCE

Thetrimmer line will advanc e approximately 2
inches (5 cm) each time the bottom of the
trimmerhead is tapped on the ground w ith the
engine running at full throttle.
Themost efficient line length is the maximum
length allowed by the line limiter.
Always keep the shield in place when the tool
is being operated.
