•Las recomendaciones que figuran en el presente manual no deben sustituir las instrucciones brindadas por el médico tratante.

•El paciente no debe conectar ningún dispositivo en el puerto de comunicación de datos, a menos que su médico o proveedor de asistencia sanitaria así se lo indique. Únicamente los productos ResMed han sido diseñados para conectarse al puerto de comunicación de datos. Conectar otros dispositivos puede provocar lesiones o daños al equipo S8 Serie II.

•El equipo S8 Serie II debe utilizarse únicamente con las mascarillas (y conectores*) recomendados por ResMed o por un médico o terapeuta respiratorio. Las mascarillas no deben utilizarse a menos que el equipo S8 Serie II esté encendido y funcionando correctamente. Nunca se debe obstruir el o los orificios de ventilación

asociados con la mascarilla.

Explicación: El equipo S8 Serie II está diseñado para utilizarse con mascarillas (o conectores)* especiales que tienen orificios de ventilación para que el aire fluya permanentemente hacia fuera de ellas. Mientras el equipo está encendido y funcionando correctamente, el aire fresco que éste proporciona hace que el aire espirado salga hacia fuera de la mascarilla a través de los orificios de ventilación. No obstante, cuando el equipo no está funcionando, no se suministrará suficiente aire fresco a través de la mascarilla y es posible que se vuelva a respirar aire exhalado. Volver a respirar aire exhalado durante más de varios minutos puede, en algunas circunstancias, provocar asfixia. Esto se aplica a la mayoría de los modelos de equipos CPAP.

•Si se produce un corte de energía o si el equipo está funcionando mal, quítese la mascarilla.

•El equipo S8 Serie II puede configurarse para suministrar presiones de hasta 20 cm

H2O. En el caso improbable de que se produzcan ciertos desperfectos en el funcionamiento, las presiones pueden alcanzar hasta 30 cm H2O.

•Si se utiliza oxígeno con el equipo, el flujo de éste debe apagarse cuando el equipo no esté funcionando. Si el oxígeno quedó activado, apague el equipo y espere 30

minutos antes de encenderlo nuevamente.

Explicación: Si el flujo de oxígeno queda encendido cuando el equipo CPAP no está funcionando, el oxígeno suministrado al tubo de respiración puede acumularse dentro del equipo CPAP y generar un riesgo de incendio. Esto se aplica a la mayoría de los tipos de equipos CPAP.

•El oxígeno favorece la combustión y no debe utilizarse en presencia de una llama expuesta o si hay un cigarrillo encendido.

•Siempre asegúrese de que el equipo esté generando un flujo de aire antes de encender el suministro de oxígeno.

•Apague siempre el suministro de oxígeno antes de detener el flujo de aire del equipo.

* Es posible integrar puertos en la mascarilla o en los conectores próximos a la mascarilla.
