Aizvara ātrums attiecas uz laika periodu, kas paiet no aizvara atvēršanas līdz tā aizvēršanai, un ir svarīgs faktors, kas ietekmē attēla spilgtumu, jo tas kontrolē, cik daudz gaismas izies cauri diafragmas atvērumam pirms attēla sensora sasniegšanas.

Parasti aizvara ātrumu var pielāgot manuāli. Aizvara ātruma mērījums

zināms arī kā„Ekspozīcijas vērtība” (EV), kas apzīmēts ar intervāliem 1 s,
