Du kan gjøre bakgrunnen i et bilde uklart eller skarpere ved å kontrollere blenderen. Den er nært relatert til feltdybden (DOF), som kan uttrykkes som liten eller stor.

Blenderhuset inneholder flere blad. Disse bladene beveger seg sammen og kontrollerer mengden lys som passerer gjennom midten av blenderen. Antall blader påvirker også fasongen på lyset når du fotograferer nattscener. Hvis en blender har et likt antall blader, fordeles lys i et likt antall deler. Hvis det er et ulikt antall blader, er antallet deler dobbelt så mange som antall blader.

For eksempel deler en blender med 8 blader lyset inn i 8 deler og en blender med 7 blader deler lyset inn i 14 deler.
