MPEG-4
The MPEG (Moving Picture Experts Group) 4 standard was designed to reproduce a wide range of moving pictures from those on a low speed communication line to those with high-definition TV picture quality. It is especially effective for application on low speed networks. While conventional MPEG1/2 encodes only portions of the picture that have changed from the key frames, MPEG-4 employs a new technique to disassemble a frame into objects. Simply put, it disassembles a picture into elements such as backgrounds, persons, buildings, etc. and records differentials or each object. The method is similar to that of M-JPEG recording format and things that can be handled as MPEG-4 objects are not limited to of physical nature, but include audio as well.
Low Rate but High Quality
Since MPEG-4 offers quality pictures at a low bit-rate, it is possible to record pictures for a considerably longer time compared to JPEG.
Network
DSR-2016 / DSR-2004 offers network connectivity with LAN and WAN. MPEG is an international standard for highly efficient digital encoding (compression) of video and audio signal and is indispensable for video signal compression and transmission over a network. Compared to conventional systems, DSR-2016 / DSR-2004 offers improved surveillance video transmission — clear pictures at low bit- rate — by the adoption of MPEG-4.

Simultaneous Recording/Playback at 200 IPS (DSR-2016) The DSR-2016 offers the capability to smoothly record and playback movement at a maximum rate of 200IPS. It also features two HDD bays, enabling expansion of storage capacity up to 1TB.
Simultaneous Recording and Playback
The simultaneous recording and playback function makes it possible for the user to review recorded images without interrupting the recording in progress (in the CIF mode, 360x240 pixels).
Triplex Function
The Triplex function of DSR-2016 / DSR-2004 makes it possible to perform three functions simultaneously, i.e. recording, playback, and network monitoring.

Built-in Motion Sensor
DSR-2016 / DSR-2004 comes with a built-in motion sensor. Different settings can be made for each channel image independently. The sensor can detect moving objects within the screen by picking up changes in brightness. The user can use this feature to trigger an alarm recording.
Audio Recording Available
The unit comes with 4ch input and 1ch output terminals to enable audio recording of each channel.
Two-way Audio over a Network
During a remote surveillance, it is possible not only to receive audio, but also to send a warning message to the point of surveillance.
