Placing Originals in the Auto
Document Feeder
Settings should be made in the fol-
lowing situations:
vWhen placing originals one by one:
p.13 “SADF mode”
vWhen placing originals consisting of
more than 80 pages:
p.12 “Batch mode”
vWhen copying originals of various
sizes:
p.13 “Mixed size mode”
vWhen placing custom size originals:
p.14 “Placing custom size origi-
nals”
Note
rDo not stack originals beyond the
limit mark on the side fence of the
ADF.
rThe last page should be on the bot-
tom.
rDo not cover the sensors with your
hands, or place objects on them.
This could cause the size to be de-
tected incorrectly, or the paper
misfeed error message to appear.
Also, do not place anything on the
cover as this could cause a mal-
function.

ASet the document guide to the
original size.
BAlign the edges of the original
and place it on the ADF with the
side to be copied facing up.

Note
rStraighten curls in the originals
before placing them on the
ADF.
rTo prevent multiple sheets from
being fed at once, fan the origi-
nal before placing it on the ADF.
rSet the original squarely.
Batch mode
In Batch mode, the machine copies an
original including more than 80 pages
as one document, even if it is placed
on the ADF in parts.
