Settings for the Sound

(AUDIO SETUP)

“AUDIO SETUP” allows you to set the sound according to the playback and connection conditions.

Select “AUDIO SETUP” in the Setup Display. To use the display, see “Using the Setup Display” (page 68).

The default settings are underlined.

If the playback sound is distorted, set this item to “ON.” The player reduces the audio output level.

This function affects the output of the following jacks:

AUDIO OUT L/R 1/2 jacks

5.1CH OUTPUT jacks

OFF Normally, select this position.

ON Select this when the playback sound from the speakers is distorted.

AUDIO DRC (Dynamic Range Control) (DVD VIDEO/DVD-RW only)

Allows smaller sound to be heard at low volume when playing a DVD that conforms to “AUDIO DRC.” This feature applies only to Dolby Digital-encoded soundtracks. This affects the output from the following jacks:

– 5.1CH OUTPUT jacks

STANDARD Normally select this position.

WIDE

Gives you the feeling of being

RANGE

at a live performance.

Notes

When “DOLBY DIGITAL” is set to “D-PCM,” you cannot set “AUDIO DRC” to “WIDE RANGE.” Even if you have already set “AUDIO DRC” to “WIDE RANGE,” when you set “DOLBY DIGITAL” to “D-PCM,” “AUDIO DRC” is changed to “STANDARD” forcibly.

When “AUDIO DRC” is set to “WIDE RANGE,” sound may not be output from the component connected to the AUDIO OUT L/R 1/2 or HDMI jack.

AUDIO FILTER (except Super Audio CD)

Selects a digital filter to reduce noise above 22.05 kHz (Sampling frequency (Fs) of the audio source is 44.1 kHz), 24 kHz (Fs is 48 kHz), or 48 kHz (Fs is above 96 kHz).

SHARP

Provides a wide frequency

 

range and spatial feeling.

 

 

SLOW

Provides smooth and warm

 

sound.

 

 

Note

There may be little effect by changing the digital filter depending on the disc or playback environment.

DOWNMIX (DVD VIDEO/DVD-RW only)

Switches the method for mixing down to 2

DOLBY Normally select this position.

SUR- Multi-channel audio signals are ROUND output to two channels for

enjoying surround sounds.

NORMAL Multi-channel audio signals are downmixed to two channels for use with your stereo.
