Configuring Microsoft® Windows® 98 Second Edition

The first time you turn on your computer, you need to complete a few steps to configure the Windows operating system that is already installed on your computer.

✍You must configure Windows 98 before you can use the computer.

First, ensure you have a phone cable connected to your computer and phone jack. Then follow the on-screen instructions to guide you through the configuration process. The following is an overview of the process. For details on the benefits of registration, see “Registering Your Computer” on page 15.

1Entering information:

❑Enter your name and follow the online instructions to register.

❑Enter the information to use your modem to connect to the Internet.

❑Read and accept the License Agreement.

❑Enter the product ID number located on the Certificate of Authenticity on the cover of the Microsoft® Windows 98 Getting Started manual.

2Windows® 98 Second Edition setup: Click the Finish button on the Windows 98 Setup Wizard screen.

3Selecting your computer settings: If necessary, change the Time Zone, Date and Time on the Date/Time Properties screen.

4You may sign up for Internet access with a Sony preferred Internet Service Provider.
