12 GoldMike MK2
Phase
The phase reverse function r everses the polarity of the mic ro-
phone signal, inverting the pha se (by 180°) to correct pha se-
inverted signals caused by multiple signal sources. A voice-
over artist, for example, hea rs himself during recording thr ough
the headphones and simultaneously t hrough the bones in his
head. Phase inversion will cause an unna tural sound, and
even minimal variations in distance to the microphone will
cause drastic variations in th e sound. Phase inversion is also
commonly encountered when using multiple micr ophones on
a single sound source. We recommend checking f or correct
polarity before each recording.
Pad
The Pad switch attenuates the inp ut by -20dB. High-level input
signals can be attenuated in order to pr event overdriving the
preamplifier. The GoldMike MK2 has a minimum pre-amplif ica-
tion of +14 dB. But with miked signals such as drums and br ass
or high level line input signals, this m ay already be too much.
Engaging Pad attenuates the minimum pre-amplification (Gain
control fully counter clockwise ) to -6 dB, thus providing a usef ul
Gain control range for loud input signal s.
Hi Pass
This switch activates the inte grated high-pass filter, which
operates at a 50 Hz center frequency and 12 dB/octave (often
called a „rumble filter“). T he filter is entirely passiv e, avoiding
additional active circuitry th at could potentially degrade the
signal, and cuts 6 dB pre- and 6 dB post-solid-state stage pre-
amplification to prevent the amplif ication of unwanted low-
frequency signal components.
