Chapter 2 Performance Tests

58502A Operational Verification58502A Operational Verification

These following procedures check the standalone functionality of the 58502A Broadband Distribution Amplifier.

Equipment

Signal Generator: HP 8663A

Oscilloscope: HP 54600B

50Ω BNC Feedthrough: HP 10100C (Use the 50feedthrough if you

are using the HP 54600B Oscilloscope; however, if you are not using this scope DO NOT use the 50feedthrough.)1

BNC Cables (1 meter, male-to-male)

Input amplitude at the 58502A input A or B connector must be below 5 Vrms (+27 dBm) or damage to the Amplifier will occur.

If any of these verification procedures fail, try repeating them. If failure still occurs, refer to Chapter 6, “Service,” in this guide for fault determination and instructions on returning the defective unit for repair.

Outputs (1-12) Verification

1Apply power to the 58502A and verify successful completion of self-test before proceeding to step 2. (See the subsection “To Connect AC Power” on page 1-5in Chapter 1 of this guide, if needed.)

NOTE

Once the 58502A Distribution Amplifier has powered on, all that is

required for operation is an input signal connected to either the

input A or B, located on the rear-panel.

2 Set the HP 8663A Signal Generator to the following conditions:

Frequency: 10 MHz

Wave type: Sinusoidal

Amplitude: +10 dBm

1The HP 54600B scope has only 1 Minput impedance. It does not allow you to switch or set the impedance to 50.
