Charging the main battery

Connecting the AC adapter to the computer

3Connect the power cable to a live electrical outlet.

If the electrical outlet is live, the system indicator panel’s AC

power light ( ) glows green.

DANGER: Damaged power cables can cause fire or electric shock.

Never modify, forcibly bend, place heavy objects on top of, or

apply heat to the power cable.

If the power cable becomes damaged or the plug overheats,

discontinue use. There is a risk of electric shock.

Never remove the power plug from the outlet with wet hands.

Doing so may cause an electric shock.

Charging the main battery

To charge the main battery, plug the computer into a live wall

outlet. It takes several hours to charge the battery with the

computer off. It takes much longer to charge the battery while

the computer is on. For more information on battery use, see

“Running the computer on battery power” on page 95.

The AC adapter and power cable work correctly, but the battery will not charge. The battery appears not to power the computer for as long as it usually does. Keyboard problems The keyboard produces unexpected characters. Display problems The display is blank. The screen does not look right. Disk drive problems You are having trouble accessing a disk, or one or more files appear to be missing. Error-checking Your hard disk seems very slow. Your data files are damaged or corrupted. Some programs run correctly but others do not. A diskette will not go into the external diskette drive. The computer displays the Non-system disk or disk error The drive cannot read a diskette. DVD-ROM or multi-function drive problems You cannot access a disc in the drive. You press the disc eject button, but the drive tray does not slide out. Some discs run correctly, but others do not. WinDVD problems: general issues WinDVD controls are disabled. Playback performance is poor. The Root or Title menu does not open. WinDVD performance decreases after making a system change.
