Using Hibernation
For the Windows® XP Home operating system, or Windows®
XP Professional operating system when not connected to a
domain server, follow these steps to power down the
computer using Hibernation:
1Click Start, select Turn off computer.
The Turn off computer dialog box appears.
2Hold down the shift key.
The Standby option changes to the Hibernation option.

3Click Hibernate.
The computer saves the mode of the system, including all
open programs and files, to the hard disk, and then powers
down completely.
For the Windows® XP Professional operating system when
connected to a domain server, follow these steps to power
down the computer using Hibernation:
1Click Start, then Shut Down.
The Shut Down dialog box appears.
2Select Hibernate from the drop-down list of options.
3Click OK.
