Starting a program

8Click Accessories.

Window s® Explorer shows the contents of the

Accessories folder on the right side of the window.

9In the right part of the window, double-click WordP ad.

The operating system opens WordPad.

To close the program, click the Close button in the

upper-right corner of the program’s window.

Starting a program from the Run dialog box

This example uses the Run command to start WordPad:

1Click Start, then click Run.

The Run dialog box appears.

2In the Run dialog box:

❖For a program in the Windows® NT folder, type just the

program name. Otherwise, if you know the program’s

location, type the full file path. Then click OK.

❖If you do not know the program’s location, you can

search for it by clicking Start, and then Search. When

the Search screen displays, follow the displayed

instructions.

Your program performs an illegal operation. Problems when you turn on the computer The computer will not start. The computer starts but when you press a key nothing happens. The computer is not accessing the hard disk or the optional external diskette drive. The computer displays the WARNING RESUME FAILURE message. The computer displays the Non-System disk or disk error message. Disk drive problems You are having trouble accessing a disk, or one or more files appear to be missing. Error-checking Your hard disk seems very slow. Your data files are damaged or corrupted. Page DVD-ROM or multi-function drive problems You cannot access a disc in the drive. You press the disc eject button, but the drive tray does not slide out. Some discs run correctly but others do not. The disc will not come out of the drive when you click the eject button on the screen. Sound system problems You do not hear any sound from the computer. PC Cards that used to work no longer work. The computer stops working (hangs) when you insert a PC Card. Printer problems The printer will not print. The printer will not print what you see on the screen. Modem problems The modem will not receive or transmit properly. The modem is on, set up properly and still will not transmit or receive data. Wireless device problems Page Special considerations for Windows XP Wired Equivalent Privacy (WEP) encryption is not enabled on the wireless access point. The Windows XP wireless management facility does not work. DVD operating problems A blank screen appears while watching a DVD-ROM movie or title. Jumping video lines appear around the DVD-ROM video window. DVD titles, games, or applications appear distorted. The screen saver runs while you are watching a movie or title.
