4. FORWHEELDRIVEmode (Figure3-2):
Slidethe wheel outward andalignthe
holesin the wheel hub(D, Figure3-2))
andthe wheel shaft (B). Insert the wheel
drivepin (A)through the wheelhuband
thewheel shaft. Securethe wheel drive
pinwith thehairpin cotter (C) bypushing
thehairpin cotterin as far as it will go.
Repeatforthe otherwheeland then
removethe support from beneaththe
transmission.
5. FORFREEWHEELmode(Figure 3-3):
Slidethe wheel inward and insert the
wheeldrive pin (A,Figure3-3) only
throughthe holein the wheel shaft (B).
Securethe wheel drive pin with the
hairpincotter (C) by pushing the hairpin
cotter in asfar as it will go.Repeatfor the
otherwheel and then remove the support
from beneaththetransmission.

Forward Clutch Bail

TheForward Clutch Bail (E, Figure 3-4)
controlsthe engagement of forward drive
to the wheelsand power to the tines.
NOTE:The wheels will rotate in a forward
direction;the tines will rotatecounter-
clockwise(backwardtoward the operator).
To Operatethe ForwardClutchBail:
1. Putthe wheels in the WHEELDRIVE
position (seethe following "WARNING"
statement).
2. Lift and hold the bail against the
handlebar. The wheels andtines will
rotate- and the tiller will movein a
forward direction.
3. Releasethebail to disengage(stop)
thewheels andtines. Forwardtiller motion
will stop (theengine will continueto run).
WARNING
Beforestarting the engine, be
sure that both wheels are in
the WHEEL DRIVE position.

instructions.
Engaging the Forward Clutch
Bail or the Reverse Clutch
Control when the wheels are
not in the WHEEL DRIVE
position could allow the tines
to rapidly propel the tiller
forward or backward.
Failure to comply could cause
loss of tiller control, property
damage, or personal injury.

ReverseClutchControl

TheReverse ClutchControl (F, Figure 3-4)
controls the engagement of reverse drive
to the wheels and tines. Thispowered
reversingfeature is used for maneuvering
thetiller only- neverengagethe tines in
theground while going in the reverse
direction.
To Operatethe ReverseClutchControl:
1. Operateonlywhen the wheels are in
theWHEEL DRIVEposition (seethe
"WARNING"statement at the left).
2. Stopall tiller motionby releasingthe
ForwardClutch Bail.
3. Lift upthe handlebaruntil the tines
clearthe ground, look behindyou to avoid
anyobstacles, and then pull the reverse
clutch control knobtowardyou. The
wheelswill rotatein a reverse direction.
4. Releasethereverse clutch control
knobto disengage (stop) the wheels and
tines. All reversemotion will stop (the
enginewill continueto run).
WARNING
Useextreme cautionwhen
reversingor pulling the
machinetowards you. Look
behindto avoid obstacles.
Never attempt to till in
reverse.
Failure to follow this warning
could result in personal injury
or propertydamage.
