INSTALLATION

NOTICE: This heater is intended for use as supplemental heat. Use this heater along with your pri- mary heating system. Do not in- stall this heater as your primary heat source. If you have a central heating system, you may run system’s circulation blower while using heater. This will help circu- late the heat throughout the house. In the event of a power outage, you can use this heater as your primary heat source.

Manual background WARNING: A qualified ser- vice person must install fireplace. Follow all local codes.

Note: Your Vanguard fireplace is designed to be used in zero clearance installations. Wall or framing material can be placed directly against any exterior surface on the rear, sides, or top of your fireplace, except where standoff spacers are integrally at- tached. If standoff spacers are attached to your fireplace, these spacers can be placed directly against wall or framing materials.

Use the dimensions shown for rough open- ings to create the easiest installations (see Built-In Fireplace Installation, page 9).

CHECK GAS TYPE

Use only natural gas. If your gas supply is not natural gas, do not install fireplace. Call the dealer where you bought your fireplace for the proper type fireplace.

Note: If desired, purchase a four-sided brass trim kit for built-in installations. See Acces- sories, page 27.

LOCATING FIREPLACE

Manual background WARNING: Maintain the mini- mum clearances shown in Figure 7 and Figure 8, page 9. If you can, provide greater clearances from floor, ceiling, and joining wall.

NOTICE: If you install the fire- place in a bedroom, some build- ing codes require that the fire- place/mantel system be secured to (or within) a wall. You can po- sition fireplace in an optional cabi- net or corner mantel. You can also recess fireplace into the wall.

If your fireplace is to be used with an optional mantel, the installation instructions included with your mantel shows an CSA/AGA ap- proved method of attaching the fireplace/man- tel system to a wall. IMPORTANT: Only use optional cabinet or corner mantels specified in this manual. Purchase the optional mantel from your dealer (see Accessories, page 27).

If your fireplace is to be recessed into the wall, see Built-In Fireplace Installation, page 9, to secure your fireplace into the wall.
