Section 1: Assembly and Set-Up

Driveline Installation

If the tiller is to be used on more than one tractor, an additional driveline may be required - especially if a quick hitch is used.

!CAUTION

Do not use a PTO adaptor with a quick hitch. A PTO adapter will increase the strain on the tractor’s PTO shaft and can damage the PTO shaft and tiller driveline.

!WARNING

Damaged drivelines can cause serious injury or death.

!CAUTION

Tractor PTO shield and all tiller guards must be in place at all times during operation!

IMPORTANT: Some tractors are equipped with multi-speed PTO ranges. Be certain your tractor ‘s PTO is set for 540 rpm.

IMPORTANT: PTO operation and/or engagement with unit raised too high will damage the driveline.

IMPORTANT: Land Pride recommends that a lift height limiter be used to prevent the tiller from being raised more than 4” to 6” out of the ground when PTO is engaged and when driving from site to site.

The tiller should be raised fully up only while loading and unloading from a transportation device such as a trailer.

IMPORTANT: Avoid premature driveline breakdown. A driveline that is operating must not exceed an angle of 25 degrees up or down while operating the 3-point lift. See Figure 1-9below.

IMPORTANT: The PTO driveline may be too long for some tractors. If the tiller is used on more than one tractor, an additional PTO driveline may be required.

The tiller driveline is coupled to the tractor and implement shafts with either push pin couplers, pull collar couplers or a combination of both and with either a shear bolt or slip clutch on the implement end for protection from shock loads.

Always engage the PTO at low engine rpm to minimize start-up torque on the driveline. Drivelines with friction clutches must go through a “run-in” operation prior to initial use and after long periods of inactivity. See “Section 4: Maintenance and Lubrication” on page 19 for a detailed description of maintaining the driveline.
