Unpacking the System

Carefully unpack the subwoofer. If there is any sign of damage from transit, report it immediately to your dealer and/or delivery service. Keep the shipping carton and packing materials for future use. Be sure to keep your purchase receipt in a safe place, as it may be required for warranty purposes.

SoundWare Sub Configuration

The SoundWare Sub comes from the factory configured as a forward-firing speaker. If you prefer, you can easily convert it to a downward firing configuration. To use the SoundWare Sub in the forward-firing configuration, place it on the cabinet surface that has the Boston logo. A floor pad is provided that should be used if the Sub is placed on a hard floor, or a floor that has

a thin or unpadded carpet or rug. If the Sub is placed on a floor that has a thicker, padded carpet, the floor pad may not be needed.

To reconfigure the SoundWare Sub remove the grille by grasping the edges and pulling it off the cabinet. You’ll see four recessed cups in the front of the cabinet where the posts that hold the grill in place had been. Screw the four supplied feet into these cups. Then carefully turn the Sub over and set it on the feet.

Caution: Do not push in on the cone of the speaker while configuring the Sub. That could cause damage that is not covered by the warranty

To convert to downward-firing configuration,

position with the floor pad under it.

remove the grille, install the four feet . . .

. . . then turn the unit over so the woofer is facing down.

Placement

Place the subwoofer next to a wall or in a corner near your main speakers. The sound is typically best when the subwoofer is within 15 feet (4.5m) of the main speakers. The sharp 24dB/octave crossover roll-off permits placement farther from the main speakers if necessary. Since the ear is unable to localize the low frequencies of the subwoofer, the bass still appears to come from the main speakers. Experimentation is key, however most positions in the room will work well.
