Chapter 1. Introducing the IBM xSeries 235 Type 8671 server

The IBM® Eserver xSeries® 235 Type 8671 is a high-performance server. It can be upgraded to a symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) server through a microprocessor upgrade. It is ideally suited for networking environments that require superior microprocessor performance, efficient memory management, flexibility, and large amounts of reliable data storage.

Performance, ease of use, reliability, and expansion capabilities were key considerations in the design of your server. These design features make it possible for you to customize the system hardware to meet your needs today and provide flexible expansion capabilities for the future.

Your server contains IBM Enterprise X-Architecturetechnologies, which help increase performance and reliability. For more information, see “What your server offers” on page 4 and “Reliability, availability, and serviceability” on page 5.

You can obtain up-to-date information about your server and other IBM server products at http://www.ibm.com/eserver/xseries/ on the World Wide Web.

Your server serial number and model number are located on labels on the bottom of the server and on the front, visible through the bezel. You will need these numbers when you register your server with IBM. The information label containing the serial number, machine type, model number, and agency marks for your server is located as follows:

vTower Model: On the bottom of the server

vRack Configuration: On the side of the server
